Would be the same as a pc. You can go to 192.168.0.1 and login. (With the defaults unless you have changed them, which I do recommend)
Had a bit of an an idea over night last night as well.
What type of wireless card is in the laptop? Obviously doesn't have the 5g range from your description.
How is your 2.4 wireless set up?
Is it in b/g/n mode?
This will partially limit your max speeds. To be able to connect to the older standards, it essentially throttles the higher types like N downwards.
Could try setting it to N only, and see if speeds improve. (Though then devices with only say a G card in them will not be able to connect)
