Again mentioning the ASUS ones.
I use an RT-N66U for a wireless access point..
Reading reviews on it.. many people complained about the HEAT on the unit.
MOST of them, were just laying it flat on a surface, just like you were.
Putting it up on the bracket which comes with it, (which the recomended to use), MOST of it goes away.
The tech who installed my CGN3, said best to leave it vertical... guessing he has runin to it.
