thanks for the detailed response! I'll call up tech support tomorrow and reference this post/images. As for the router I've actually got it flashed with OpenWRT and have had it at previous houses without issue. I think, like you said, the first step is the tech and if I still notice issues afterwards then I'll take a look into the router & PC AV.

Also after some research it looks like those T4 errors do indicate a cable/connector issue as you were saying. It wouldn't surprise me... the house I'm renting is quite old.

Yup, you must be in the downtown area around OttawaU.  Some of those cable systems in that area are fairly old as well, so, not a big surprise.  When the tech has completed his or her work can you repost the signal levels, just so I can see how far they've improved, or not.  Sometimes this takes more than one tech visit.

I do not use active antivirus (manual scan occasionally or as-needed), so it wouldn't be that.  I switched the router to IPv4 only mode and ran another speedtest, and still only got 450Mbit down / 50 up, but this is without isolating my connection (others in the household could be using lots of bandwidth) so I can't say anything for certain.

I tried that and noticed no difference in speed. The big difference is turning off Avast and running the speedtest from the http://speedcheck.rogers.com/en.html site:

Avast on: 440 Mbps
Avast off: 863 Mbps

HUGE difference.

Now I just need to find some software that provides reasonable protection but does not cut my speed down by 1/2

We had the same issue in bridge mode.  Once the signal levels are confirmed as within spec (this can be the first problem, you need to confirm they are -10 to +10dB), then the issue seems to be that bridge mode on these modems is problematic (could be a firmware or hardware revision issue, who cares at this point, since it's a problem anyway).

In order to fix it and preserve your PERSONAL router settings and features and port forwarding, etc, here's what to do:

1) disable any ddns on your own router (this function needs to be transferred to the HITRON modem/router if it's not in bridge mode).  Get all the account settings together because you'll need to enter them for the HITRON setup.

2) note the WAN MAC address of your PERSONAL router, you'll need it.

3) physically disconnect your PERSONAL router from the HITRON modem and plug in a network cable (from HITRON port 1) directly to a laptop or pc to do the rest (there is no guarantee that the factory reset on the HITRON will turn on wireless - sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't).

4) perform a factory reset on the HITRON (hold the RESET button for 10 seconds and release).

5) login to the HITRON (usually at 192.168.100.1) with your PC/laptop username "cusadmin" password "password" (or it may retain the one you had previously set)

6) check dhcp assignment on HITRON to ensure it doesn't overlap your PERSONAL router - easiest just to use a different subnet - i.e. - 192.168.100.xxx if your PERSONAL router uses 192.168.0.xxx

7) create a dhcp reservation on HITRON for your PERSONAL router's MAC address noted in #2 - i.e. 192.168.100.15

8) create a port forwarding rule on HITRON for TCP/UDP port range 1-49151 to go to the IP you reserved in #7

9) set up DDNS on the HITRON and wait for confirmation of function (it'll tell you if it passed or failed)

10) ensure you turn off both of the HITRON wireless radios to reduce interference with your PERSONAL router

That's it.  You do NOT need to implement DMZ, port forwarding is sufficient.

Good morning Community,

Just want to start by saying I have not been on the forum much in the last 2 weeks, working a lot in the backend to try to bring you some improvements and addressing some critical issues (my real work). I have a huge backlog in private message and firmware trials registrations but I will work on that today.

I will also slowly start the upgrade process on CODA-4582 and CODA-4582U modems to the newest firmware released to me 2.0.10.33. This firmware introduces a major fix for customers loosing OFDM (I’ve pushed a test firmware to some of you). It also introduces an update to the IPv6 firewall which is meant to correct some issues where large packets were not handled properly (ICMPv6 Packet to big message was incorrectly discarded).

I am also expecting to receive a firmware for the CGN3 AC family of modems in the next couple of days. This will be firmware 4.5.8.36 and should include changes for devices disconnecting WiFi (usually fixed by a single factory reset) and the same IPv6 firewall change as the CODA.

As usual, I will post change logs in this post shortly.

I've had good luck running the built in/default Windows Defender protection. I enable Windows Defender, Windows Firewall, and Microsoft Smart Screen Filter in EDGE. I also run Windows 10 and keep it updated.

Hi there, I am running 4.5.8.35 on Hitron hardware version 1A - all members of household are experiencing connection hangups and drops.  On my samsung phone it periodically displays '!' beside wifi symbol, showing no internet connection.  It will usually disconnect and reconnect and then be fine for a short period of time.

We have an iPhone in the house that will hang, and not recover on it's own, so sending messages in apps or uploading attachments usually fails and she has to switch wifi off to accomplish these tasks.

Both MacBooks will periodically fail to load a page saying 'no internet connection', typically resolved by a refresh.  Has this problem been identified, and is there a fix in the works?   Thanks!

EDIT:  I was told to post here, but my modem is CGNM-3552 - should I be posting this elsewhere?

I would make sure your WiFi settings are as follows:

2.4Ghz:

Channel: 1, 6, or 11 only, as these don't share with other channels

Channel Width: 20Mhz

Security: WPA 2 With AES Encryption.

5Ghz:

Channel: 149 or higher

Channel Width 80Mhz

Security: WPA 2 With AES Encryption.

Turn off WPS on both, and disable UPnP, it's a security risk.

If that doesn't help/your already running those settings then it could be the hardware/antenna in the Gateway is failing, I would suggest doing a modem swap at that point. If you're on an unlimited plan (100u or higher) you can swap to the new CODA 4582 Modem that has better WiFi performance, as it uses Wave 2 AC.

Also always use 5Ghz when possible, as 2.4Ghz is VERY Crowded.

In addition to 's suggestions, try the following:

Log into the modem, navigate to the BASIC .... GATEWAY FUNCTION.  Look for a mode setting which has IPV4, IPV6 and Dual.  If its included in the firmware for that modem, its probably in Dual mode.  Switch it to IPV4 only.  Save the setting.  The modem will take a minute or two to switch to IPV4 mode.  Reboot the modem to force a switch to IPV4 IP addresses for all of the devices, ADMIN .... DEVICE RESET .... Reboot.

Have a look after the reboot to see if the problem still exists.  Please let me know if this works.

Fwiw, I'd try this first, before doing anything else.

Keep getting disconnected from Destiny CGN3

Good day,

I've had Rogers internet for well over a couple of years now. I've been playing Destiny on PS4 since launch day which was a year before getting Rogers high speed internet. We got the 150 mb download plan with Cgn3 router.

I started getting disconnected from Destiny with weasel error codes. I couldn't figure out what was causing it. After doing research and after much patience, I believe I figured out the issue but I don't know how to resolve it.

My Ps4 is always hard wired. I noticed that I started getting disconnected when too many people are on the internet. We have about 4-6 devices connected at once. I don't get disconnected when 1 other person is on. When 2 or more people are on than I get disconnected frequently.

I set up a static ip address for my Ps4 and did the port forwarding. No luck. I'm kind of stuck now and unsure of what to do to get the best gaming experience while still allowing others to use the internet.

What's the best option???

Hi,

Firstly, my english is nod good, but I will try to explain my problem, sorry about that.

I have the Rogers internet in my home, but the range of this network isn't good. So I bought the CGN2 to make the second network in my room. But the problem is I don't have the password to access the network from this modem. I tried to factory reset but the SSID still same and require the password to login. At the back of the modem, just have id and password to access 192.168.0.1. No more password for access the network. I known that I can access via ethernet cable but my laptop hasn't ethernet port, so I can access only via wifi connection.

Have any idea for this situation?

Thanks

you can call Rogers and ask them what the current WiFi password is or ask them to change it to a password that you choose. Or you can log in to the modem at 192.168.0.1

then goto wifi settings and you can change the WiFi password from there.

With the 150 package you can upgrade your CGN to the new CODA 4582 Modem, as a gamer it will help since it uses newer DOCSIS 3.1 technology which helps to lower ping.

Regardless with 6 people connected to the modem at the same time you shouldn't have any gaming issues, unless those devices are using lots of upload bandwidth causing the connection to stall.

Hi there,

I've been reading through the forums and trying to find solutions but I'm not that network savvy so I'm hoping you could help.

I've been having latency/routing/ping issues in my area for over a year. I recently moved houses as well and got the same internet package (GIGABIT with the CODA 4582 Modem) and both addresses seem to give me the same issues.

This is specifically for CS:GO, a first person shooter game.

1) My speeds are usually fine on the Ookla speed test.

2) I should be getting around 60ms to most centrally located servers such as Texas and Colorado, but I am consistently getting 80ms+. Also, to Illinois would I should be getting around 40, some servers give me 60ms.

3) I'm not exactly sure how to explain it, but when I play online, the connection just seems choppy and there are these micro skips that occur so when I am moving/running or shooting, it is very noticeable that it is skipping, and it is not related to FPS.

4) The past few weeks have been the worst it's ever been.

When I lived at my previous address, I remember contacting you about a Firmware 2.0.10.27 which showed minor improvements, but now it seems like this modem is on a different firmware.

How to get faster Internet speeds on my older PC

I ran a Rogers speed test  on my faster PC (Intel Core i7-2670QM @ 2.20GHz) and able to get 945 Mbps on the Rogers Gigabit service.  On my older PC (Intel Core2 Quad Q9300 @ 2.50GHz with 4 GB ram and 256 GB Samsung 850 PRO SSD), I can't seem to get back 645 Mbps.  I tried to do a file transfer between systems and can get around 121 MBps to 125 MBps so I know the network card can handle gigabit.

I also removed the Antivirus and using Windows Defender so I know nothing else Is the bottleneck. I know that 645 Mbps is decent speed but would like to get the max speed from the Internet connection if possible.

Any suggestions?
