Regardless of what these advertise.. the built in on them, is not much better than any mid range wireless router.
Which in the same way, advertise how 'good' they are.
Really in the end, beyond any interference, any internal antenna modem (regardless of the # of antennas) will be worse than external.
EG: I went from an N based internal 3rd party wireless.. was slightly better than the older hitron. But when I went to an antenna based N router.. i was getting full bars in places where I was only getting 2 before in the house.
Really with these units.. they are included in the price of the modem rental. Use them for what they are, if the range and features work for you. But if you need better, your really better off bridging it, and using a 3rd party router.
my understanding, is that the Hitron only has some KEYWORD filtering. (and even at that, its pretty sketchy of it working or not)
Most decent 3rd party modems have much more advanced filtering available.
EG: I am using a ASUS router. It has the option to do keyword filtering, but as well can block specific URLs, or even portions of URLs (eg any url which contains the word sex)
As well, can also do much better time management comparatively. (you can block/allow 1hr blocks. So you can allow say 2 hrs before school, and 3 hours after.... not just from the morning time till the ending time completely)
You could move the modem.. but you would have to have them dis associate with the one location, and put on the other.
Same with the plans.. they would have to change the plan at that location to say the higher one, for the time being.
Hello,
We have information that the store at 411 Bayfield St N has received both Rocket and Gigabit modems, would you please try updating your modem today?
You can also try the store at 509 Bayfield Street, Georgian Mall, Unit B016, it should have a few Rocket and Gigabit modems available.
Keep us posted.

This morning my Wi-Fi network was renamed and my passphrase had been changed. The passphrase I used was actually an alphanumeric string and 63 characters long. I have AES encryption and WPA2 mode enabled.
With such a long passphrase, it is hard to imagine someone brute forcing it.
Is there anything else I can do to harden this network/router settings and also maybe see where the compromise happened?

You should also ensure that WPS is disabled in both the 2.4 and 5 Ghz tabs. WPS is not secure.
Disable UPNP if you don't need it, or use it to set gaming or application port forwarding: BASIC .... GATEWAY FUNCTION .... UPNP --> Disabled.
I would also reset the wifi password to a different alphanumeric string. It will be a pain to reenter that into something like a mobile phone or ipod/ipad, but, usually you don't expect to change that very often. Fwiw, as one normally doesn't have to enter the wifi network name, fill that with some alphanumeric string as well. The combination of random alphanumeric strings in both the network name and passphrase will prevent anyone from using pre-computed lookup tables which are available on the internet and used for wifi network hacking.
If you don't want to generate the strings manually, you can use the following GRC page to do that:
https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm
Each page refresh will result in new passphrases.
You could also turn off the SSID broadcast, so that the network name isn't observable with ordinary applications. From what I remember reading, that doesn't make it more secure, just more of a challenge for anyone to determine what it is. Anyone running a Linux laptop with the wifi in promiscuous mode should be able to determine what it is. The one problem with this is the possibility that Apple devices won't be able to use the wifi network. Previous Apple devices would not run on a hidden SSID network. Maybe that's changed?? Don't know.....
I've notice no one direct from Rogers has posted anything in 3 weeks, Im hoping its because they're hard at working trying to fix things, but just curious why no comments or questions to us about anything. Also;
I wanted to post my recent docsis logs here, just incase they help with the wifi disconnect issues, they are becoming very feqquent, especially mid afternoon, guarunteed to go out at least twice every day after 1pm before 10pm.... Im not seeing anything directly responsible in the docsis log, or anything even leading towards the issue as the log times and events dont co-encide with the events in real time, like, after it corrects itself, or I log in with my wired computer, there is no new event for my somtimes upto 10min wifi disconnect.
I havnt taken a sheetshot, keep forgetting too on my laptop, but every time, the IPv6 address goes nutz, way out of range, and most the time I loose Ipv6 completely. Occationally, IPv6 seems to stay, but I have no way to check if its "in range" and I can somtimes force my laptop onto a static IP like 192.168.0.106 to get it back in range, and Ill get the network back for a while, but even that will eventually say network connection, but no internet, and then i put it back on Auto, it goes to a rnadom thing, I get ***** off, and go to my desktop, login, and reboot the modem.
Anyways, hope any of that helps, heres my docsis logs;

Hello RogersMoin,
I would like to thank you for all your help. Just picked up Rocket Modem and working fine.
Thanks again

I had UPNP and WPS already disabled, which are typically the most insecure settings. Just changed all the passphrases (the GRC page is actually where I got the original ones I was using).
Wonder how this happened? Likely some sort of man-in-the-middle attack via some sniffer software?
Hello,
I appreciate the update. I'm happy that you got the modem and it's working fine. Thank you for all your patience and participation in the Community.

Hello RogersMoin,
Thanks again for your help.
Regards,19491
I have a Passport external HD hooked up through the USB port of my CGN3 Gateway router. I can see it from my Mac laptops but can't add folders, delete folders, change names of files etc. When I try to delete a file the error says: "The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items." When I try to add folders it says: "Finder wants to make changes" and asks for my user name and password but then says: "Items can’t be copied to “Photos Folder” because you don’t have permission to read them." I had previously plugged the hard drive directly into laptop and made it "read and write for everyone" before connecting it back to the router. When I go to "get info" on any of the folders on there it says I have custom access. I have been looking since yesterday to get this resolved but all of the threads suggest the same thing and nothing seems to work. Does anyone know what I have to do to resolve this? Any help would be much appreciated.
Hello
Thank you for your post and welcome to the Rogers Community Forums! =)
Being able to make changes to your External Hard Drive remotely is a great feature! You've definitely reached the right place for answers to this type of inquiry. We have some very experienced Resident Experts who may be able to provide an answer for you. I will ensure they are tagged in this post
If there is anyone else in the Community that is familiar with this inquiry feel free to chime in as well!

Thank you
That would be my best guess. I'm not a mac user, but it should probably be similar to windows networked drives, which I also don't do. Its been a while since I've looked at networked drive access but, setting the correct drive mapping and access permissions comes to mind.
Edit: one additional point from way back when is the issue of the drive format. I seem to recall some discussion in the forum regarding the usb connected drive format, as in something other than NTFS. That alone might be the cause of the problems, but, its been a very long time since I've seen that discussion. I'll have to try to find it, but, not guaranteeing that I'll be able to find it tonight.
Thank you... do you mean changing those permissions on the Rogers Admin tab on the Rogers CGN3ACSMR login page or changing from my mac?
I suspect that it would have to be changed in the mac, as the path to the drive from the mac has changed. Please read my additional edit notes above.
