Re: Rogers Hitron CODA-4582 Hardware

Thanks everybody for the update - that was back in July - guess it is not a huge priority - although it says USB 2 drives will work, my usb2 drive with external power connection isn't detected, any of them.

The flash drives are detected, so instead, I just moved back to my old faithful - plugged it into a spare computer, leave it running and share and map the drive.

Hopefully it comes at some point.  Would prefer to be running a computer just for connecting a laptop when the router is designed to be a NAS as per Hitron documentation.

But one step at a time I guess - got to get things steady and ready on Docsis 3.0 and ready for Comcast X rollout, and making sure that really important things like stable WIFI, upload speeds, and latency and gaming stability, all of which have been worked on.

It is unfortunate that we the users got stuck in the middle of a mess with Intel Puma chips, Hitron designs, and probably a contractual commitment to the Hitron line. Glad that everyone involved is taking a very committed beta testing process to move this forward, because there has been no shortage of issues with the Hitron modems from day one.

Unfortunately, it is we the consumer that have to live with it.  thanks for the information and glad that you found it and that hopefully it still is sitting on a to do list somewhere with the engineers, which I am sure it is.

Thanks. I don't think it is my Hitron modem but I have provide the data below.  The Hitron CGN2 modem is connected to the PC by ethernet cable. The speeds are back to what they use to be at the moment.  Speed test:  11.55 D/L and 1.58 U/L   Latency 30ms  Jitter 3ms  for the   Internet 5 package.  I probably wouldn't have even noticed this but I tried to upload a 1 Gig video and it said 20 hours to upload!  At 1 meg/sec, I would expect maybe 2  hours.

Anyway the ticket number is still outstanding from Saturday (30 Sep 2017). It is now Tuesday (3 Oct 2017) and I just received an automated call from Rogers telling me that they apologize for the delay.

I did call support yesterday and the tech did indicate that there was an outage in my area but couldn't say where exactly. He suggested changing the Hitron modem, but I am not sure these two issues are related and I don't like the trial and error approach.  When I started talking about the Webstar Scientific Atlanta modem in my basement only having two lights on (Power and DS) and one flashing (US), I ended up on hold for awhile. The other lights were off (Online, Link, Tel1, Tel2, Battery)   The thing is, I have the Webstar modem going to the TV, home phone and internet modem, then there is the Hitron internet modem, plus my router and then my PC to consider.  The recommended "Troubleshooting" is not system based and it doesn't get into details.  There is also the possibility that the problem rests with the Rogers DSL lines or unscheduled maintenance.

My question is really basic: What would typically cause your internet speed to change so that I can systematically check each cause in a more proficient manner.

Also just wondering if there a way to get a faster speed from Rogers temporarily? Say 10mbps for a few hours just to upload.

, the first four downstream signal levels aren't bad, the next four are due to the high frequency roll-off that is typically seen on the Rogers network.  For some reason, the CMTS has assigned the last four channels to the channel pool that is available above 750 Mhz, where the roll-off normally starts.  I would unplug the modem, wait for about 10 to 15 seconds and plug it back in to force a restart.  See if that manages to cause the channels assignments to shift down below 750 Mhz.  Small point, and in theory the modem should be satisfied to operate with those signal levels on the downstream side, I'd personally prefer to see the signal levels where the first four are, or closer to 0 dBmV if possible.  That 0 dBmV target will depend on the number of cable modems in the home and the splitter that is used to provide data services to those modems.

The upstream levels are ok, so, I wouldn't expect any issues on the upstream side.  For faster uploads, you're going to have to consider stepping up to one of the internet plans that would provide 10 Mb/s uploads.  If you have a package plan going, that might end up killing the package plan, so, that is something that has to be considered.  Just depends on how valuable the increased upload might be to your internet activities.

I'd keep calling in regarding the area issue in order to keep an eye on the progress.  If the work has been completed but you don't see any improvements, then its time for tech support to have another look at the problem.

Even with the last four downstream levels sitting where they are, I wouldn't expect to see problems with upload rates.  If there is an area issue, that wouldn't necessarily show up in the modem data, so, that is something that the field techs would have to sort out.

How your Internet Speed calculated -  Does this even make sense?

For over 2 months, I have been having slow download speeds on the Gigabit package.  I used to get around 860 Mbps to 980 Mbps on the download and  over 50 Mbps on upload.

Recently my speed tests never go higher than 450 Mbps/32 Mbps when connected via Cat 6 Cable.

Looking at the Rogers site, I see that the max upload speed that was getting of 50+ Mbps is now around 32 Mbps.  I contacted Rogers as in my previous interactions they suggested that they wanted to check my speeds and network and have a sr. tech visit.

When I explained the situation to the Agent on the phone, they told me to look at the notes of the gigabit plan which state the following:

A computer or device with the above configuration and a direct wired connection to your modem will best allow you to enjoy the speeds delivered by your Rogers Ignite Internet package.

An Ethernet/wired connection and at least one wireless connection are required to reach maximum download speeds of up to 1Gbps for Rogers Ignite Gigabit Internet.

Actual speeds experienced vary with Internet traffic, server gateway/router, equipment, home wiring, home network or other factors.

The item of interest was the second point:

An Ethernet/wired connection and at least one wireless connection are required to reach maximum download speeds of up to 1Gbps for Rogers Ignite Gigabit Internet.

The way this was explained by the rep was I was to do a speed test on 1 PC connected via CAT 6 and one wifi device connected at 5 Ghz.  Running the speed test at the same time, I should add the speeds and that should be close to 1 Gbit.  I cannot do a speed test from 1 PC or device only to test max speed.

The analogy to this was I have 2 vehicles with a max speed of 100 km/h and neither of them can get 100 KM/h speeds.  However, if both vehicles could go 40 Km/h and 60 km/h that would total 100 km/h and that would be ok.

Am I missing something here or was this rep on the phone not making sense to me.

Thoughts?

My speedtests (speedtest.net and the rogers one) were always perfect 930/50 since December.

The last two months i get fine for download, but almost always times out for upload. No changes in my setup at all. This is obviously wired.

Problem With wifi after firmware update

So After this new firmware update i got the other day my wifi has been acting weird

firmware: 4.5.8.33

model: cgn3acsmr

The problem is my two phones both connected to my 5G network will keep reconnecting over and over which does the same on 2.4ghz now here's the thing this is only happening on my two phones nexus 5x on android 8

on my tablet that's android 5 my wifi is 2.4ghz which seems to have no stability issues only the phones have this problem...
keep in mind the signal strength is perfect on all devices which makes no sense why the phones disconnect

I pretty much tried everything it all points this is the firmware's fault

another thing if i do a speedtest most of the time the wifi will disconnect if it manages to pass download when it switches to upload it will disconnect i cannot do a successful speed test on the wifi on both phones.

Using a app called Wifi Analyzer i can see the network show up for a few seconds then goes away completely which then the phone scans and loses connection then the network will reappear then the phone connects again.

Ok so something weird is happening here i switched my phone to the 2.4ghz network now when i use the app i can see the 2.4ghz network seems stable but i still drop so i look at the 5ghz band and watch it drop when it drops my 2.4ghz connection drops now this again only happens on the phone as i have my tablet beside me which was working fine still

I think they say two devices incase both devices can't handle a full gigabit connection. If you have a very old computer, or slow/bloated computer then the speed test might Max out well before gigabit. If you have a computer that 2 months ago was getting 900mb/s and lately isn't, then unless something dramatically changed with your computer, I would be looking at the connection being the issue.

My single laptop will max out my connection (Gigabit), I have no need to run two devices to test speeds. If you try and do a speed test using a Tablet or Cell Phone then they usually Max out around 450-500mb/s, so you would need two devices doing the speed test at the same time to get close to gigabit.

So I understand why Rogers says to use two devices at the same time, because some people may not have computers that can support Gigabit, or they use a tablet to run a speed test and think something is wrong when it maxes out at 500mb/s.

Hello !

I am sorry to hear that your email still appears to be stuck in place Smiley Sad

At this point, I would recommend requesting a restore from Yahoo directly. You can make that request here: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN2552.html

Thanks for the reply.  Yes what you say makes sense but this is not what the guy on the phone was telling me.  Frankly I don't think first line techs really have any clue about things that are beyond their reach and are just trying to blow the customer off.  I used to be a manager at a call centre 20 years ago and know all about call stats Smiley Happy

I find I get better information on their forum instead of calling support.  Unfortunately, we have to call them to resolve issues even though it feels like one is banging their head against a wall trying to explain things to them.

Yes, my iPad Air 2 and Pixel devices will max out around 550 Mbps when the connection used to be fast and my laptop can easily get max speeds if the Rogers network can provide it.  My laptop is an i7, with 8 GB ram, 500 Gb Samsung SSD, Gigabit NIC and an Intel Dual Band AC network card.  I would not call these specs a slouch Smiley Happy

, have you checked your wifi environment recently to see if any of your neighbors has installed a new modem or router which might be interfering with your wifi network?

Thanks for your reply.

My desktops are all being used via CAT 6 cable and not wifi.

As for the wifi devices, running wifiinfoview, I see 39 networks in my area and I am the only one running 5.745 Frequency with a connection speed of 1733 Mbps on an 802.11n/ac setup.  Everyone else is on a 2.4 Ghz and none of my devices are using 2.4 Ghz and that radio is even turned off on the modem.  From what I see, there would be no issues with interference

Any way for the CGN3ACR to allow port fowarding 22?

Heyo! We've fairly recently got the new modem from Rogers. I've got a Linux box that I like to access from the outside world. The most convenient way to do that is with SSH, though I've noticed that all the ports I've tried to forward worked except ssh, I assumed that this was an error on my part... I've been wrong many times before... But after doing some research, I found this... why is this a thing? What's so special about this port when any other protocol that you can log into (including VPN or other remote-machine protocols) can be brute-forced as well? Any way I could make this work without using any additional hardware?

Re: CGN3ACSMR wireless keeps dropping

My Mobile was getting connected to WiFi for twenty seconds and then disconnect for 5 seconds or so, non -stop in a loop. I searched the internet, this forum but no solution that worked. My other devices, including old mobiles, did not have a problem. Obviously, I thought that my mobile had a fault, so went to Neighbours and connected to WiFi and It was OK.

After searching through Internet, did not get any solution. Finally, I thought about IPv4-IPv6. I logged into the router, the setting was 'Auto' for IPv4and IPv6. I changed it to 'IPv4 Only' and the mobile wifi connectivity problem is over.

, can you have a look at the modem's firmware version and let me know what you have loaded.  When you log into the modem, that can be seen on the modem's STATUS tab, listed as the Software Version.

And, are you using an android or iphone?

Should everyone have receive an email about the Rogers/Yahoo split?  I don't believe I've received anything.

In light of the recent news that all 3 billion of Yahoo users accounts were hacked back in 2013, I would really love to not have to use Yahoo's portal to access my Rogers email.  I never liked the interface anyway, and the hack just makes me all the more anxious to be rid of it.
